Flourish

Flourish was an arts-in-education project with artist Fiona Hallinan and Blakestown Community School. Curated by Superprojects this project was delivered in partnership with Fingal Arts Office, with financial support from the Arts Council. Artist Fiona Hallinan worked with Transition Year students at Blakestown Community School through a series of virtual visits to the classroom.

This project explored table manners and food rituals in different families and cultures. Fiona introduced her artistic practice and described how many artists are working with food as a material and subject matter, giving insightful examples such as Korean artist Jiwon Woo’s artwork titled ‘Mother’s Hand Taste’. She invited the students to consider food and contamination, and how Covid-19 has impacted on how we think about food and its preparation. Guided by Fiona and their art teacher the students crafted their own designs of objects that could fulfil a desire or respond to a human need.
