Clancy Quay Studios + Superprojects Professional Development Programme 2022 - 23

Now in its fourth year, the Clancy Quay Studios + Superprojects Professional Development Programme gives recent graduates from all fine art courses across the country the opportunity to access knowledge, training and feedback from Ireland’s leading experts in the visual arts. The series offered bi-weekly seminars, gallery and studio visits, mentoring and feedback sessions, with knowledge sharing and peer to peer collaborations encouraged.

The programme ran from October 2022 to January 2023 and involved 17 participants, 16 mentors and 8 organisations across Ireland.

Over the course of nine sessions starting in October 2022 the programme included in person day long meetings, site and studio visits in both Dublin and Cork as well as a series of online seminars and in person and online one-on-one mentoring sessions. Themes of seminars included subjects such as time management, how to approach artists talks and presentations, studio visits and networking, how to write excellent applications, tax and finance for artists, documenting your work and more.

As well as providing training and practical information, participants on the series will be given the opportunity to access one on one advice clinics with curators and arts professionals. At the end of the series, participants will have developed a strong peer network as well as increased knowledge and confidence in how to proceed and thrive in their careers as visual artists, bridging the gap between University and the professional world. In addition each week, three participants were asked to do a 6 minute online presentation of their work with 2 minutes allocated for feedback from the group. In this way, each artist experienced presenting their work and became aware of each other’s practices.

Lucida Collective led the group to record their reflections on the week’s session visually, creating a collaborative ‘zine at the end of the programme. The ‘zine making task taught new skills such as photoshop layouts and design, as well as helped participants to capture their learning in a creative way through the creation of a collaborative documentation of the process and learning outcomes of the programme. The publication was launched at a closing event day taking place on January 18th 2023 at the National College of Art & Design in Dublin. You can view or download the ‘zine here.
